History

Reverend Fred Jordan, founder and then pastor of Brooklane Baptist Church had a dream. He wanted Brooklane Baptist Church to have a Christian day school ministry. In the early days of 1973 the Lord allowed things to fall into place for such a ministry to become a reality. Ground was broken and the original academy building was built. Brooklane Baptist Academy first opened its doors to students in September of 1973 . Reverend Fritz Harter who was then the youth pastor became the first administrator and school opened with one hundred eighty five students. From the first day Brooklane had a daycare, kindergarten, and first through twelfth grades. The first graduating class, Class of 1974, consisted of one student. This student attended college and is currently a school teacher.
Thousands of students have attended the BBA. Its alumni have attended University of Alabama, Auburn University, University of Alabama Birmingham, Birmingham Southern, Samford University, Tennessee Temple University, Southeastern Bible College, Pensacola Christian College and many more colleges and universities.
The aim of the school from its inception has been to give students a well disciplined atmosphere and academic excellence with the absolute truth of Scripture as the foundation of every subject. Fine Arts and a competitive sports program have been added as components of a well rounded education.
There have been many achievements in the school’s history. The Academy choir won fourth place in national competition at Idaho State University and two years later became national champions at Rutgers University. Many smaller musical groups have come home with national honors. Several of our students have placed in national speech competition. Two students have won national recognition for essay writing while others have placed in poetry and short story.

Mission

Brooklane Baptist Academy is a kindergarten through twelfth grade school providing academic excellence with a Christian perspective. Our staff is a qualified group of caring professionals with the primary objective of inspiring a Biblical worldview while equipping students with the character, courage and wisdom to impact their world for Christ.

Philosophy

Brooklane Baptist Academy is a ministry of Brooklane Baptist Church. The objective in having a Christian school is to obey the scriptural imperative of Deuteronomy 6:5-9, which states: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and thou shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”
If a child spends seven hours a day in the government school, Christian principles taught at home often lose much of their effectiveness. God’s command in the above passage states that children are to receive continuous Christian instruction. During much of your child’s waking moments he must, of necessity, be ” under teachers and other authorities.” (Gal. 4:2). Brooklane Baptist Academy is an extension of your home. Our goal is to reinforce the Biblical values taught in the home.
Luke 2:52 states, ” Jesus increased in wisdom in stature and in favor with God and man.” This passage refers to the academic, physical, spiritual and social development of Jesus as a young man. Our program provides many wonderful opportunities for growth in all of these areas.
It is essential that education begins with a belief in the absolute truth of Gods word, the Bible. Academic, political, social and economic views cannot and must not be separated from the foundational belief in God’s word as the final authority. As students begin to understand this truth they will be able to view life and all of it’s questions from a proper perspective.
